PICCOLA GUIDA PER KAON-XTREME-DIGIX E SIMILI by PAPPALARDO
Questo documento vuole essere solo una piccola raccolta di documenti trovati in rete che ho cercato semplicemente di mettere insieme e organizzare. Non vuole essere niente di più e declino ogni responsabilità su eventuali incorrettezze e problemi vari ed eventuali che potessero avvenire ai vostri decoder.
Ricordate tutto quello che fate lo fate a vostro rischio e pericolo.
Innanzitutto alcuni comandi particolari che si possono dare al decoder:
RESET DECODER (RESET TO BLIND FACTORY RESET)
Premere 3 volte il tastino del decoder freccia su (arrow up) e poi OK del telecomando (altri dicono il tasto 1) e il decoder si resetta alle impostazioni di fabbrica.
Funzione interessante nel caso non si conosca il pin code che blocca l’accesso ai vari menù del decoder.
(P.S. i pin code generalmente utilizzati nei firm alternativi sono comunemente 463330 oppure 863330 quando sono a sei cifre, se a quattro 0000)
SALVARE IL FIRMWARE DEL DECODER SUL PC
Per poter fare questa operazione è necessario avere un cavo null modem e bisogna utilizzare il programma:
swreader SW-R v 2.1
La prima operazione da fare è quella di mettere il decoder in HOST MODE:
1) Accendere il decoder su un canale in chiaro;
2) Premere sul frontale del decoder il tasto "channel+" (freccia su – arrow up) 3 volte consecutive velocemente e subito dopo il tasto "mute" sul telecomando
3) Vedrete che il decoder si resetta e dopo il reset sul display avrete la scritta "HOST" senza nessun canale attivo sulla televisione(schermo nero)
4) Collegare il pc al decoder e lanciate il programma sw reader 2.1
6) Impostare la directory dove volete sia salvato il file del fw una volta finito il download
7) Selezionare la porta Com che usate per il collegamento tra il pc ed il decoder
8) Selezionare il box "Add the header for the Kup - Loader" altrimenti se non selezionato quando si apre il kup ed il file, non vi viene riconosciuto come fw valido
10) 12345 servono solo per editare la partenza del blocco ed il numero dei blocchi, ma per copiare il firm bisogna lasciarli così come sono e cioe' start 0 e number 1024, se volete editarli premere i numeri come indicato.
11) Attivare il bottone Open e il cerchietto rosso diventerà verde con lo scarico dei dati in esecuzione.
12) Alla fine del download,se tutto ok, il programma vi dice che ha finito e a questo punto potete spegnere il decoder con il tasto sul retro e poi riaccenderlo.
A questo punto siamo pronti ad inserire nuovi firm avendo sempre in questo modo la possibilità di tornare al firm originale
PROCEDURA PER CARICARE I NUOVI FIRM
CARICARE FIRMWARE CON LOADER KUP 2.30 Engeener Patched
1) Spegnere il decoder dal tasto sul retro.
2) Collegare con cavo seriale null modem il decoder al personal computer.
3) Accendere il decoder solamente dal tasto sul retro (stand-by).
4) Eseguire Kup 2.30, aprire il firmware da installare e selezionare la porta COM a cui è collegato il decoder.
5) Chiudere Kup 2.30 senza toccare nulla.
6) Rieseguire Kup 2.30 e premere la barra di spazio sulla tastiera del personal computer.
7) Accendere il decoder dal telecomando ed attendere il termine del caricamento del nuovo firmware segnalato dal software. Al termine del caricamento, quando appare "disconnect" cliccateci rapidamente sopra e chiudete programma Kup230. Fatelo velocemente, altrimenti si riavvia richiamato dal decoder che nel frattempo automaticamente si sta ripristinando!!!!
8) Il decoder si re-inizializza e si riavvia automaticamente.
9) Chiudere Kup 2.30 e spegnere il decoder prima di scollegarlo dal personal computer.
RIPRISTINARE IL FIRM ORIGINALE
1) Spegnere il decoder dal tasto sul retro.
2) Collegare con cavo seriale null modem il decoder al personal computer.
3) Eseguire Kup 2.30, selezionare la porta COM a cui è collegato il decoder ed aprire il file "First_v88_xh.bin".
4) Accendere il decoder solamente dal tasto sul retro (stand-by).
5) Appare il messaggio "Old bin". Premere la barra di spazio sulla tastiera del personal computer.
6) Spegnere il decoder dal tasto sul retro.
7) Aprire il firmware da installare.
Accendere il decoder solamente dal tasto sul retro ed attendere il termine del caricamento del nuovo firmware segnalato dal software.
8 ) Il decoder si re-inizializza e si riavvia automaticamente.
9) Chiudere Kup 2.30 e spegnere il decoder prima di scollegarlo dal personal computer.
SETTING
Prima di caricare nuove liste canali è sempre consigliabile fare un backup della propria lista in modo che se il caricamento non è soddisfacente o non va a buon fine si può sempre ripristinare la propria.
Vi sono diversi editors di setting sta a voi trovare quello che più si addice al vostro decoder.
(In rete potete trovare diversi tipi di ChannelEditorII con differenze di numero canali e possibili liste di favoriti nonché della grandezza della flash del decoder e adattamenti per i vari decoder, SetEditXtreme, SetEditKaon, Cfg_Kaon, Kaon Digix 211, ecc., ecc..
Come aggiornare i setting con ChannelEDitorII
1) Spegnere il decoder dal tasto sul retro.
2) Collegare con cavo seriale null modem il decoder al personal computer.
3) Accendere il decoder dal tasto sul retro (stand-by).
4) Eseguire il Channel Editor adatto al firmware installato sul decoder.
5) Selezionare la voce "STB->PC" del menù "Transfer".
6) Accendere il decoder dal telecomando ed attendere il termine dello scaricamento dei settings sul personal computer.
7) Spegnere il decoder dal telecomando, chiudere la finestra in primo piano e salvare i settings sul proprio personal computer per futuri ripristini.
8 ) In modo molto intuitivo è possibile modificare, aggiungere e cancellare satelliti e transponder, editare ed ordinare la lista dei canali tv, la lista dei canali radio e le liste dei favoriti, tagliare ed incollare i canali in posizioni diverse, singolarmente od in gruppo.
9) Selezionare la voce "PC->STB" del menù "Transfer".
10) Accendere il decoder dal telecomando ed attendere il termine del caricamento dei settings.
11) Chiudere la finestra in primo piano, salvare i settings aggiornati sul personal computer, chiudere Channel Editor e spegnere il decoder prima di scollegarlo dal personal computer.
Come aggiornare i setting con seteditXtreme o seteditkaon
Cavo null-modem, con il decoder in standby
Apri il setedit, setti la com giusta ed il tipo di decoder che hai (secondo tasto in alto del setedit "config", poi a decoder spento scrivi sul ricevitore, compare una finestra dai ok e parte un conto alla rovescia; prima che finisca accendi il decoder e dovrebbe iniziare a caricarli.
A volte se guardi il pc la barra di avanzamento si blocca, non preoccuparti ma se hai la tv accesa puoi notare che il caricamento va avanti ugualmente.
Finito il caricamento il decoder si resetta e riaccende da solo.
A questo punto puoi uscire dal setedit.

Questa è la segnalazione di un'amico fattami in un'altro forum:
"Per i decoder X-treme Ucas ( 13.42.65 ) i metodi Host Mode e reset utilizzano pulsanti diversi.
Host Mode = 3 volte sul ricevitore il tasto Exit + mute dal telecomando.
Reset totale = 3 volte sul ricevitore il tasto Exit + tasto1 dal telecomando.
Un paio di tricks:
Dopo un ripristino ai firmware originali la password non e' settata, alla prima impostazione e' utile entrare nel menu' di configurazione, alla richiesta di password digitare nell'ordine i tasti rosso verde giallo blu e inserire la nuova password.
Una volta inserito un firmware Compatibile per accedere al menu' segreto, digitare da telecomando la sequenza giallo blu verde menu' ..."

In spite of the fact that everything has
been verified meti****usly, the author does not take any responsability in case of the consequences that could produce the use not adpated of the information and method here described.
Introduction
I have observed in the forums that many people have problems to load the new firmwares, and difficulties in the use of the Channel Editor because in occasions it does not allow us to connect whit the computer to upload the Channel List.
The responsability of all these described problems and of many others is in the
majority of the cases the version of the BootLoader that your STB has. It is due to the fact that some versions of the BootLoaders incorporate a certain type of embedded security added by the manufacturer to prevent it of a possible load by mistake of a different firmware version, and this produces not wished side effects, it nevertheless is no problem for who uses his FTA Receiver to see only the free FTA channels whith the original firmware and he does not like to play anything.
Fortunately this has easy solution if you continue the adequate steps at foot of the letter, therefore some versions of BootLoaders exist that do not have those problems since do not incorporate the “damned” embedded security and that we can put in our boxes to put an end to this nightmare.
So I have decided to write this document based on my own experience, expecting that it serves to clear some doubts, although possibly it be not all the complete thing that I wanted, since unfortunately I do not have all the models of the Boxes existing in market to test them.
A Little Bit of Technical Culture
The BootLoader is for our Boxes as BIOS for computers, I mean, it is the VHDL (Very Hardware Dependent Layer), this means that if there is some small difference among the internal components of 2 Boxes, these will use a different BootLoaders adapted to control their particular design, which once in operation will permit us to charge the same operating system and aplicatiom program (The Firmware).
Among ours wanted Boxes initially we can establish 4 large groups that utilize
essentially different types of BootLoaders in function of the circuit controller of the frontal board that incorporate or of if they carry or not Skycrypt embedded CAM and of the kind of memory Flash assembled in the mainboard:
1st Group: MICOM STB with Embedded UCAS CAM and all PVR models.
2nd Group: NO-MICOM STB with Embedded Skycrypt CAM.
3th Group: NO-MICOM STB without Skycrypt CAM and Flash memory 39VF160
4th Group: NO-MICOM STB without Skycrypt CAM and Flash memory 29W160
Nowadays among these 4 large groups we can find models of Boxes of all the marks with some of the following versions of BootLoaders. (orderly of smaller to greater according to version and revision).
1.0.7 2.1.0 3.0.0 6.1.6v6
1.1.2 2.1.2 5.1.6v6 6.1.8v1
1.1.6v6 2.1.6v6 6.1.4 6.1.8v2
2.0.2 2.1.8v1 6.1.6v4 8.2.0v1
As it can be seen in the previous table, at less 16 versions of BootLoaders exist, some with embedded security and others not and as can be observed also, in some cases the same version has 2 revisions and in many cases we do not know which we have exactly, therefore our STB only shows us the first 3 digits and not the revision, for example, 2 people apparently think that they have the same BootLoader version (6.1.6) and nevertheless they have different revisions and one have problems (v6) and the other not (v4).
This is a mess !!!
How Identifying Our Set Top Box Type
It is fundamental to know exactly the type of STB that we have before changing the BootLoader by another, since it was said before some differences exist among them that do that they be incompatible among them.
The 1st group Boxes, I mean, MICOM Boxes with UCAS CAM embedded and all
PVR types are easily identifiable therefore they are all those models that incorporate a UCAS CAM embedded and types with hard disk and in general all the models of any mark with hardware 1X.4X.6X (e.g. 12.41.65, 13.41.65, 13.41.6D, 13.42.65 or 13.42.6D).
The 2nd group, NO-MICOM Boxes with Skycrypt CAM embedded is nowadays
integrated only for Xtreme Hornet with Hardware 12.03.A5.
For the 3th and 4th groups, NO-MICOM Boxes without Skycrypt CAM, the most extended models in market, the situation is more complex because it is necessary to know the plate version and the kind of Flash memory incorporated. In these groups we can find infinity of models of the Kaon, Xtreme, Digiquest, Sunny, etc. marks. And others several hardwares 12.XX.XX or 16.XX.XX.
We are going to try to identify the mainboard and the type of Flash memory of our Box with the aid of the following photo of a Kaon KSC-570 2 CI 12.01.A5 (It also serves for a Digiquest 8000SCI, Sunny and others).

Boxes with many versions of mainboards and with two different types of Flash
memory have been seen up to now:
SST 39VF160
ST M29W160
If we find another different memory type do not continue. Ask in forums before to go on.
The Best BootLoader For Every STB
Once known, exactly, to that group our Box belongs, we see the different versions of BootLoader suitable for us which must not incorporate embedded security by the manufacturer, since as already was told previously they are not interchangeable among them.
If we have a BootLoader version upper or lower it does not signify anything, only that is different, so it must not worry us in the case that instead of bringing up to date to an upper version, we should go to a lower one.
By my experience, here are the versions that better results offer in the different models:
1st Group: All MICOM models: 1.1.2
2nd Group: NO-MICOM with embedded CAM (Xtreme Hornet): 2.1.2
3th Group: NO-MICOM without embedded CAM and Flash 39VF160: 2.1.0
4th Group NO-MICOM without embedded CAM and Flash M29W160: 6.1.6v4
Steps To Change The BootLoader
Although the majority of the versions can be found in the Internet, the first thing that we should do is to have a backup copy of the BootLoader of our Box in case that something could fail and we need to restore it or if we need to repair o to return it.
For this we can use the following programs: Kdn004 by Alsol or BIReader by Danila.
NOTE: If someone has a version of BootLoader 1.0.7 or 2.0.2 or another one not listed and does a backup copy with these programs, I would thank him to put in contact to send it me to add it to my private collection.
The updoad of the Bootloader is as the Firmwares one, using the Kup230 Engineer Mode program, which should not represent any problem.
After doing it, is convenient that we power-off the STB of the rear switch and when power-on it again, we will see in the display and in the menu of informacion of the system the new one version.
In some cases depending on the prior version, it could happen that when we try to go to the version 2.1.0 in models with 39VF160 Flash we couldn’t, then and only in this case we will load before the version 2.1.8 which will provide us the necessary compatibility to go to a lower version and when the STB start and work perfectly with this, we will pass to try to load again the version 2.1.0 which will be the one finally loaded.
Some Observations
All the the steps here described will provide us a BootLoader version without
embedded security, which will allow us to load any firmware in our STB, another question might be if our firmware is compatible or not with our hardware, but that is another thing.
We will be also able to use, without problems, any channels editor to establish
communication with the STB. There is an opcion to correct only this editor issue for those who have the BootLoader 6.1.8 and it consists in loading the upgrade 6.1.8v2, but we must remember that this version continues having embedded security and only corrects the thing of the download of the channels list.
Continuing with the editors, remember that all they are designed to work with the original firmware, which could cause problems if we work with a version with emulator incorporated (discharge of empty lists, loss of the keys when loading a list of channels, etc.) This is because the firmwares with emulator usually have an internal structure in the channels table slightly different to officials.
I always have worked well even with firmwares with emulator with the Digix Editor, selecting the FTA model, in this way existing keys are not lost when loading the list.
For your convenience, with this manual I enclose the different necessary versions of the various BootLoaders files.

Questa è la segnalazione di un'amico fattami in un'altro forum:
"Per i decoder X-treme Ucas ( 13.42.65 ) i metodi Host Mode e reset utilizzano pulsanti diversi.
Host Mode = 3 volte sul ricevitore il tasto Exit + mute dal telecomando.
Reset totale = 3 volte sul ricevitore il tasto Exit + tasto1 dal telecomando.
Un paio di tricks:
Dopo un ripristino ai firmware originali la password non e' settata, alla prima impostazione e' utile entrare nel menu' di configurazione, alla richiesta di password digitare nell'ordine i tasti rosso verde giallo blu e inserire la nuova password.
Una volta inserito un firmware Compatibile per accedere al menu' segreto, digitare da telecomando la sequenza giallo blu verde menu' ..."

Introduction
I have observed in the forums that many people have problems to load the new firmwares, and difficulties in the use of the Channel Editor because in occasions it does not allow us to connect whit the computer to upload the Channel List.
The responsability of all these described problems and of many others is in the
majority of the cases the version of the BootLoader that your STB has. It is due to the fact that some versions of the BootLoaders incorporate a certain type of embedded security added by the manufacturer to prevent it of a possible load by mistake of a different firmware version, and this produces not wished side effects, it nevertheless is no problem for who uses his FTA Receiver to see only the free FTA channels whith the original firmware and he does not like to play anything.
Fortunately this has easy solution if you continue the adequate steps at foot of the letter, therefore some versions of BootLoaders exist that do not have those problems since do not incorporate the “damned” embedded security and that we can put in our boxes to put an end to this nightmare.
So I have decided to write this document based on my own experience, expecting that it serves to clear some doubts, although possibly it be not all the complete thing that I wanted, since unfortunately I do not have all the models of the Boxes existing in market to test them.
A Little Bit of Technical Culture
The BootLoader is for our Boxes as BIOS for computers, I mean, it is the VHDL (Very Hardware Dependent Layer), this means that if there is some small difference among the internal components of 2 Boxes, these will use a different BootLoaders adapted to control their particular design, which once in operation will permit us to charge the same operating system and aplicatiom program (The Firmware).
Among ours wanted Boxes initially we can establish 4 large groups that utilize
essentially different types of BootLoaders in function of the circuit controller of the frontal board that incorporate or of if they carry or not Skycrypt embedded CAM and of the kind of memory Flash assembled in the mainboard:
1st Group: MICOM STB with Embedded UCAS CAM and all PVR models.
2nd Group: NO-MICOM STB with Embedded Skycrypt CAM.
3th Group: NO-MICOM STB without Skycrypt CAM and Flash memory 39VF160
4th Group: NO-MICOM STB without Skycrypt CAM and Flash memory 29W160
Nowadays among these 4 large groups we can find models of Boxes of all the marks with some of the following versions of BootLoaders. (orderly of smaller to greater according to version and revision).
1.0.7 2.1.0 3.0.0 6.1.6v6
1.1.2 2.1.2 5.1.6v6 6.1.8v1
1.1.6v6 2.1.6v6 6.1.4 6.1.8v2
2.0.2 2.1.8v1 6.1.6v4 8.2.0v1
As it can be seen in the previous table, at less 16 versions of BootLoaders exist, some with embedded security and others not and as can be observed also, in some cases the same version has 2 revisions and in many cases we do not know which we have exactly, therefore our STB only shows us the first 3 digits and not the revision, for example, 2 people apparently think that they have the same BootLoader version (6.1.6) and nevertheless they have different revisions and one have problems (v6) and the other not (v4).
This is a mess !!!
How Identifying Our Set Top Box Type
It is fundamental to know exactly the type of STB that we have before changing the BootLoader by another, since it was said before some differences exist among them that do that they be incompatible among them.
The 1st group Boxes, I mean, MICOM Boxes with UCAS CAM embedded and all
PVR types are easily identifiable therefore they are all those models that incorporate a UCAS CAM embedded and types with hard disk and in general all the models of any mark with hardware 1X.4X.6X (e.g. 12.41.65, 13.41.65, 13.41.6D, 13.42.65 or 13.42.6D).
The 2nd group, NO-MICOM Boxes with Skycrypt CAM embedded is nowadays
integrated only for Xtreme Hornet with Hardware 12.03.A5.
For the 3th and 4th groups, NO-MICOM Boxes without Skycrypt CAM, the most extended models in market, the situation is more complex because it is necessary to know the plate version and the kind of Flash memory incorporated. In these groups we can find infinity of models of the Kaon, Xtreme, Digiquest, Sunny, etc. marks. And others several hardwares 12.XX.XX or 16.XX.XX.
We are going to try to identify the mainboard and the type of Flash memory of our Box with the aid of the following photo of a Kaon KSC-570 2 CI 12.01.A5 (It also serves for a Digiquest 8000SCI, Sunny and others).

Boxes with many versions of mainboards and with two different types of Flash
memory have been seen up to now:
SST 39VF160
ST M29W160
If we find another different memory type do not continue. Ask in forums before to go on.
The Best BootLoader For Every STB
Once known, exactly, to that group our Box belongs, we see the different versions of BootLoader suitable for us which must not incorporate embedded security by the manufacturer, since as already was told previously they are not interchangeable among them.
If we have a BootLoader version upper or lower it does not signify anything, only that is different, so it must not worry us in the case that instead of bringing up to date to an upper version, we should go to a lower one.
By my experience, here are the versions that better results offer in the different models:
1st Group: All MICOM models: 1.1.2
2nd Group: NO-MICOM with embedded CAM (Xtreme Hornet): 2.1.2
3th Group: NO-MICOM without embedded CAM and Flash 39VF160: 2.1.0
4th Group NO-MICOM without embedded CAM and Flash M29W160: 6.1.6v4
Steps To Change The BootLoader
Although the majority of the versions can be found in the Internet, the first thing that we should do is to have a backup copy of the BootLoader of our Box in case that something could fail and we need to restore it or if we need to repair o to return it.
For this we can use the following programs: Kdn004 by Alsol or BIReader by Danila.
NOTE: If someone has a version of BootLoader 1.0.7 or 2.0.2 or another one not listed and does a backup copy with these programs, I would thank him to put in contact to send it me to add it to my private collection.
The updoad of the Bootloader is as the Firmwares one, using the Kup230 Engineer Mode program, which should not represent any problem.
After doing it, is convenient that we power-off the STB of the rear switch and when power-on it again, we will see in the display and in the menu of informacion of the system the new one version.
In some cases depending on the prior version, it could happen that when we try to go to the version 2.1.0 in models with 39VF160 Flash we couldn’t, then and only in this case we will load before the version 2.1.8 which will provide us the necessary compatibility to go to a lower version and when the STB start and work perfectly with this, we will pass to try to load again the version 2.1.0 which will be the one finally loaded.
Some Observations
All the the steps here described will provide us a BootLoader version without
embedded security, which will allow us to load any firmware in our STB, another question might be if our firmware is compatible or not with our hardware, but that is another thing.
We will be also able to use, without problems, any channels editor to establish
communication with the STB. There is an opcion to correct only this editor issue for those who have the BootLoader 6.1.8 and it consists in loading the upgrade 6.1.8v2, but we must remember that this version continues having embedded security and only corrects the thing of the download of the channels list.
Continuing with the editors, remember that all they are designed to work with the original firmware, which could cause problems if we work with a version with emulator incorporated (discharge of empty lists, loss of the keys when loading a list of channels, etc.) This is because the firmwares with emulator usually have an internal structure in the channels table slightly different to officials.
I always have worked well even with firmwares with emulator with the Digix Editor, selecting the FTA model, in this way existing keys are not lost when loading the list.
For your convenience, with this manual I enclose the different necessary versions of the various BootLoaders files.
