New consortium working on wireless HD video solution

A group of electronics manufacturers have announced the creation of a consortium to develop and market a wireless high-def video solution. Dubbed the WirelessHD Consortium, its aim is to untangle some of the wiring in the home entertainment center and enable HD video to be streamed wirelessly to high-definition TVs.
The WirelessHD Consortium is made up of LG, Matsushita, Samsung, SiBEAM, Sony, and Toshiba. Matsushita is the parent company of Panasonic and SiBEAM is a new wireless technology company. WirelessHD will use the unlicensed 60GHz frequency band, which will keep it from interfering with other household devices that typically operate in the 2-6GHz range, and will be able to stream content-protected (natch) video over distances of up to 32 feet without the need for line-of-sight.
