Here we go - please welcome jIM - The Cross Platform JAVA Image Manager for Dreambox!!!
Yes, that is true - the Image Manager that all of you were expecting is finally released. The DBBrothers Team proudly presents the first public beta of jIM.
Let's see some details about this revolutionary soft. Firstly it's all written in Java, and this means that jIM can run on all Operating Systems, as Windows (all flavours), Linux (all shapes
- obviously no WINE needed)) and even on Mac OS.
All you have to do is run the file jIM.jar on a java console.
It's simply unbelievebale and this is only the beggining. Let's go and se the features of this amazing proggy:
First of all you will need to install it. Simply extract all files from the archive above and create a jIM folder somewhere containing the files. To run it launch jim.bat (Windoze) or jim.sh (Linux). You can also run jIM from comand line: java -jar jIM.jar. (Firstly make sure you have latest Java version installed on your machine, if not download it from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/)
You then will see the verbose comand line window (that some of you might find necessary):
and jIM itself
:
jIM obviously can backup all kinds of installed images (from flash, usb stick, harddisc and even cf). It uses a new compression routine that saves backups with a *.jbk extension.
Some may ask: "What about my old Flashwizard (tm) backups?" No fear. I already told you that jIM is an amazing program. Yes, it can handle and install *.fwz files and even convert old FWZ backups that you may have on better compressed JBK files (up to 30%). On the other hand it can convert JBK files into FWZ ones (if you like to ...
). Does it seems incredible? No it's not. Let's see how that can be done.
For converting backups you will need to manually copy the file com.ice.tar.jar that you find in the extra subdirectory onto the extension java subdirectory on you computer. To find where it is simply go to ? --> About and see where is your Java ext directory situated. On my Windoze PC it is c:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_0.1\lib\ext:
Ok, now jIM is fully installed. Let's take a look on it's features:
1. jIM can install all kind of image and backup (flash or multiboot) files for Dreambox 7000, in flash and in multiboot.
Just go to Img --> Select Image, and browse to where you have yor *.img, *.jbk or *.fwz files:
Select your file and choose "Open". If you choose a FlashWizard backup jIM will give some extra information on that:
Confirm and choose where you want to install your image/backup on the main jIM window and you will be prompted to choose the name of the image that will appear on the boot menu:
Confirm and jIM will start the installation (look at the blue bar on the left):
At the end, you will see your new image listed:
You can obliusly delete images simply by selecting them and choosing "Delete"
2. With jIM you can choose to install Flashwizard or Dreamflash bootmenus on your Dreambox. Just go to Set Mode and choose the bootmenu:
3. As I told you, jIM fully converts FWZ backups on JBK ones and vice versa:
Choose conversion type from Tools menu:
browse to where the backup to convert is situated and open it:
As you can see, the compression rate of jIM is up to 30% better than the old ones
:
4. jIM changes bootlogo images everywhere they are installed. Yesss I am sure of what I am saynig, even in flash. For doing that just do not select any of the images and click on Logo button:
5. Send and receive settings to and from the Dreambox:
6. Other things like setting boot priority, renaming images, mounting and formatting Usb stick. rebooting box etc..
Well, we hope you will like it and plz keep testing.. jIM is still in beta version
Bye
