Stars of Screen and Sport Attend Laureus World Sports Awards 2007 Gala Launch Party in Barcelona
BARCELONA, April 2, 2007 – More than 650 guests including some of the biggest stars of screen and sport attended the Laureus World Sports Awards launch party at Barcelona nightspot Shoko Lounge Club on Sunday evening.
Eva Longoria and Kyle MacLachlan, from Hollywood hit ‘Desperate Housewives,’ enjoyed canapés with ‘24’ star Elisha Cuthbert and Bon Jovi drummer Tico Torres at the star-studded reception.
Laureus Academy Member Franz Klammer, who attended the party, said: “Every year the Laureus World Sports Awards get bigger and bigger and yet there was such an easy-going atmosphere at the party. The Awards are such a huge prize for athletes and you can see from how many attend quite how much it means to them.”
The Shoko Lounge Club is one of the trendiest venues in Spain, with guests enjoying a fusion of Asian and Mediterranean dishes on the terrace and in the club’s various zones.
Laureus Academy Members who attended the party included: Franz Klammer, Marcel Desailly, Nadia Comaneci, Marvin Hagler, Nawal El Moutawakel, Yaping Deng, Giacomo Agostini, Tanni Grey-Thompson, Steve Waugh, Alberto Tomba, Robbie Naish, Daley Thompson, Mark Spitz, Hugo Porta, Miguel Indurain, Marcus Allen, Mike Horn and Morne Du Plessis.
Other sports stars in attendance last night included: Justin Marshall, Barry McGuigan, Lucas Radebe, Alessandro Del Piero, Jens Lehmann and Vitali Klitschko.
The 2007 Laureus World Sports Awards, staged at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona, is the premier global sports awards honouring the greatest sportsmen and women across all sports each year.
