(I am sorry, I don't speak Italian, I'll post a Google translation below)

Hi, I am new in this forum.

I have a friend from my country who is in Vercelli now, and she'd like to watch TV there, but she's in a hall of residence (casa dello studente) and there is no TV aerial socket (presa per l'antenna?) there.

Would it be possible to watch TV inside her room by using a DVB-T USB dongle (sintonizzatori USB)?:

I've read that the antennas of such USB receivers have very poor reception, and they only work indoors if there is a DVB-T repeater around, or if you place the dongle's antenna near the window.

I believe this is a DVB-T repeater, but I am not sure:

So, how can I know is there is a DVB-T signal repeater around my friend's residence in Vercelli or if she will be able to watch TV inside her room before buying the USB dongle?

What would be the maximum distance between the signal repeater and the USB dongle for it to work properly?

Thank you very much in advance.

Grazie mille in anticipo.

Hi, :D I will try to answer you in english.
Since we are in a frame of switch off until the 26 november, in Vercelli there is still a lot of analog signals in the air. It would be better to wait until that date to see if it is possible to receive by dongle the digital tv.
Anyways, it should be better to place the antenna that comes with the dongle near a window facing the trasmitter, but I don't know if that tower is a tv one. Normally in the cities the towers you see are made fro mobil phones.
The only way to know is to try, but I cannot warranty the success.
Hope this helps you.
See you ! ! ! :D

Thanks for answering!

What's the name in Italian for those TV towers/repeaters/transmitters?
She's going to ask if there is any around where she lives.

(The photo I posted is from one in Spain, and it is indeed a TDT/DTT tower)

Hi, if you can tell me the area around where your friend is living (I don't need the exact address, just the area) I can tell you if there is some towers in the nearby.

EDIT: Here you can see the channels arriving to Vercelli. In the list you see the name of the channel the type of trasmission (dvb means digital), the location of the transmitter the azimut to point the antenna and the distance to the city.

Thanks/grazie/gracias!

Regarding the "distanza" column in that chart: how many kilometers would be considered "too far" to get a decent signal?

Only 6 are in Vercelli (in a 2-3 kilometer radius), does it mean she could only receive 6 channels? (Rete 7 Piemonte, La 9, Telesubalpina, Motori Tv Dvb, Teleritmo Dvb and Videostar 3 Dvb). After these, the nearest are 23 km away from Vercelli.
